Teacher Leadership in Action: Visual Explorer Activity

Hiller Spires

What will you contribute as a new literacies teacher leader?

1. Free write for 2 minutes: Connect what you learned this week at the Institute with your
vision of yourself as a teacher leader of new literacies.
2. Take a gallery walk and select 1-2 images that reflect your role as a new literacies teacher leader. Think metaphorically about what you will contribute as a teacher leader as you select your images. What obstacles do you anticipate as you take action? What leadership qualities will you exhibit in order to be successful? (10 minutes)
3. Return to your design studio groups and articulate what you will contribute as a new literacies teacher leader. Take turns sharing. (10 minutes)
4. Generate a 3-2-1 action plan that consists of a) Three goals you want to achieve by the end of the year; b) Who are two people you will collaborate with to achieve those goals?; and c) What is the first realistic step you will take to address this plan? (15 minutes)
5. Post your 3-2-1 plan here.

Thursday's benchmarks:

  • Have you critically evaluated and revised your instructional plan? Is it aligned with Common Core/Essential Standards?
  • Have you incorporated ways for students to publish and share their work?
  • Do you have a completed instructional plan posted on your wiki?
  • Do you have a technology product that supports your instructional plan or an example/model of what it is you want students to create?
  • Have you leveraged your evolving TPACK in your instructional plan?
  • Have you been intentional about building in ample time for students to be creative and work at the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy?
  • Are you being intentional about ways that you will be a teacher leader at your school and beyond?
  • Is your IMPACT V Team making progress on goals and action steps for implementing IMPACT V at your school?

After Hours Dabbling:

1. Make sure your PBI is completed. Be prepared to share your work with your partner during Design Studio Showcase tomorrow.

2. Complete the MISO survey by following this link
http://ncsu.qualtrics.com//SE/?SID=SV_3BOlobK25C8bZys These will be the second time you have taken the survey. We are asking you to take the survey again to see how much progress we have made on the indicators being surveyed. Thanks for your participation.
